BroadBand Light – the Next Generation

BBL stands for Broadband Light. The BBL™ technology is considered to be the next generation of Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Hence, it is more powerful and more effective compared to its IPL predecessor.

BBL™ can treat a wider range of skin issues, including firming and tightening skin. It was created to increase safety and improve results of photorejuvenation treatments.

What it means is that it does the same thing as IPL does, but better.

What is BBL Technology?

BBL Pigmentation Treatment Light Wavelenths

Broadband light (BBL) is non-laser high intensity light energy that is emitted from high-output flashlamp to produce a broad wavelength output of noncoherent light.

BBL is able to fire light energy at different wavelengths (generally from 400 to 1200 nm), targeting different levels of the skin, and allows treatment of different skin type (fair to dark).

Various cutoff filters are used to selectively filter out shorter wavelength like the damaging Ultra-violet (UV) light.

The light that comes through targets specific structures and chromophores (such as pigments, hair, vessels), that are heated up and destroyed. This stimulates and kicks off the skin’s regenerative process.

Reverse Skin Ageing genetically

It was initially used to treat skin damage from too much sun exposure, until clinical results based on a 10-year study from Stanford University shows that Forever Young BBL not only delay the ageing process, but also turn back the clock, causing the DNA expression of skin cells to reverse back to a healthier, younger state.

It has been proven to be working at a cellular level, where the gene expression of the skin cells are changed. It makes it act like how a youthful skin cell would behave, hence making the cells produce more proteins and collagen.

Since the release of the Stanford study, BBL treatments are increasingly indicated for anti-aging purposes and to slow down ageing.

What is the cost in Singapore?

A single session should cost around $600 in Singapore, and it is usually available in aesthetics clinics, and hence usually operated by doctors.

Results can be noted in a single session, but for long lasting results, multiple sessions (about once every month) are recommended.

Extensive research have shown that with regular Forever Young BBL treatments, patients’ skin looks smoother, clearer, and much younger.

What to expect during treatment?

It is relatively painless and can be rather comfortable. The most uncomfortable complaint is described as rubber band snap on the skin or the very bright light.

Numbing cream is applied to the skin before the procedure and eye googles would be placed to protect the eyes.

Absolutely no downtime

This treatment is simple and quick. Most patient will go back to work immediately after and it is considered a lunch-time procedure.

You can expect a bit of redness and swelling, but since the skin is not broken during this procedure, you are free to put on come makeup to cover up if you like.

What are the side effects?

Mild redness is generally expected and it may feel like a slight sunburn in the treated area. Depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment, you may have swelling for a day or two. Pigmentation will turn darker and will slough off in 7-14 days. You may have bruising with vascular treatments.

BBL stands for Broadband Light. The BBL™ technology is considered to be the next generation of Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Hence, it is more powerful and more effective compared to its IPL predecessor.
